KAABS

By recycling steel and metal scrap, KAABS is part of the circular economy and contributes to a more sustainable future for society at large. Collected scrap is checked, sorted and processed to meet the quality requirements of steel and metal mills so that it can eventually be used as recycled raw material for new products.

Slag gravel is the waste industry's name for processed bottom ash from the incineration of household and industrial waste in a grate boiler. As a subcontractor to NSR, KAABS handles approximately 35,000 tons of bottom ash per year from Öresundskraft's incineration plant in Vera Park. KAABS sifts and sorts the ash into different fractions and extracts metals using, among other things, magnetic separation and eddy current separation. The residual product, the slag gravel, is today used within NSR's area, while the various metals that have been extracted go to steel and metal works to then be recycled as raw material for new products.
